I was asked recently to make a costume.
A very different project to what I am doing normally and so I was quite excited.

Have you ever seen the movie `HotRod'?

Well, I hadn't seen it before and so I followed some pictures from off the internet. After completing the costume, I decided that I really did have to watch this movie.

It's about a guy who wants to be a stuntman...but he really isn't good at it at all. He constantly has lots of accidents but always tries again.

It's really quite a ridiculous movie and not normally my style, but I didnt mind it.

Anyway, here is the costume.

I enjoyed making this and it gave me a break from my `normal' sewing projects

The sewing nook

From this...

To this....
A friend was getting rid of this beautiful bookcase, so I snapped it up to try and get a little bit organised in my new sewing space.

I still have so many more stashes of material and nowhere to put them, and I haven't even started on `other craft' such as all my scrapbooking things. But this is a start. The fabrics I use the most are now visible and easy to grab.
This box was another of my bargain finds. It's just adorable and so very shabby chic!

Besides Sewing

Besides sewing, I have been in the mood for restoring things. After doing my sewing table, I was hooked. I then found a desk for my son that I shall be working on soon, and this absolutely adorable rocking chair. I found it at the tip shop for just $5!! I just love it!!! I thought about stripping the paint off it, but I think I actually like the whole shabby chic look as is, and will just put a new seat in it. Then of course, I will have to make a very shabby chic cushion for it.

I do love a good rumage at the tip shop and op shops. Have had some fabulous finds lately. Shall post more about my finds another day.

The other thing that I was busy last week with was our `Princess & Pirate' themed day at the mainly music group that I run. I quickly painted this castle the night before, which is now hanging in my daughter's bedroom.

What have I been up to?

What have I been up to?

A little while ago, I found this old solid recycled timer dining table, that I sanded back and gave a lick of white paint and left the legs raw timber for that shabby chic look. It is now my sewing table that I have set up in a sunny nook that used to be my son's bedroom. He has now moved into a big bed in his brothers room. So I finally have my own little craft room...yippeee

So...I finally decided to set up a Facebook page under the name Mimagirl Creations to sell a few of my handmade items. You must check it out. I recently had my very
first giveaway once I reached 100 likes on my page. One very lucky lady recieved these adorable Peter Rabbit cards and was quite delighted with them.

I will have more of Enid Blyton's beautiful character's on cards shortly. I also have been enjoying vintage Disney characters such as Thumper and friends.

I recently sold a tooth fairy pillow complete with fairy dust to the same lovely lady whose daughter had her first wobbly tooth. She was one very excited little girl to recieve a special pillow in which to place her tooth.

Lots more photos of things I have been creating that I shall post over the next few days or you could check out mimagirl creations on facebook!

The beginning of my simple homemade living started today with making these knitted dishcloths. I just LOVE them. What great gifts they will make too.

I found the pattern on another blog here. It's so easy and quick to do. I made it with organic cotton. My local wool shop had 30% off so I even saved there. Apparently they last for ages.

I've also been enjoying making fresh bread daily. I have every now and again in the past with different recipies, but I have finally found a favorite. It makes a fabulously light and fluffy (and very yummy with butter and golden syrup) loaf of bread. I found the recipie here. I'm afraid I can't paste a photo of it because it was eaten before I could take a snap of it! Maybe tomorrows loaf.

Well, it is the last day of 2010. So wishing you all a Happy New Year. Hope 2011 is good to you

New Year Resolutions

Ok it's nearly time for New Year Resolutions.
I cannot believe how fast this year has flown by.
It has been a year of allsorts and ups and downs.
I haven't managed to do this blog this year.
And so my New Years Resolution will be to really try and get to it more.

I am wanting to create for my family, a simple life.
To live more simply is something I yearn for and dream of.
Starting in 2011, I want to stop dreaming of it,
and start to live it more so than we are now.

I shall turn off that TV and stop reading magazines that make me WANT things.
I want to get out in the garden more, cook from scratch more, preserve my own produce. Sew and mend our clothes and the list goes on.

This year I had so much pleasure in making gifts for friends and relatives. I made cakes, buiscuts, chutneys, jams, and made a table top cubby house for my neices.
Finding creative ways of packaging, and presenting these items was half the fun.
It gave such a sense of pride and great pleasure to give something that I had made with love for those that I love.
So I want to continue this way as much as possible and teach my children to do the same.
What are your New Years Resolutions this year?

Ok,

I am so not good at this blogging thing.

Seems to take me forever to write anything.

Actually, I don't like posting anything without pictures and my computer is too slow at

uploading them. However, I am soon to get a new computer and hoping that shall

solve the problem.

So just wait a little longer and then I shall join this blogging world hopefully a little

more regularly.

In the meantime, I am busy sewing, cooking, gardening and caring for my family!

Compliments

Oh my Goodness.
Since doing the market I have had so many
lovely compliments and no greater compliment
than someone wanting you to make something for them.
I have had several people ask me to do a quilt for them. Also to make some of the skirts and pants but in larger sizes because their older children would just LOVE them!!!!
A lady I know turned up at my door thismorning because she had heard about my stuff, and had a look, bought some and ordered others!

SO HAPPY!

Product photos

There it is.....my stall! I put up the bunting as part of my shop display and so many people wanted to buy it, so I guess I will have to make a few of them to sell for the next market! I still haven't figured out how to get the photos off my phone, so fortunately my husband came along and took one of the stall. Will be getting a slightly larger marquee for the next one so that I can fit more in. It was a bit squashy.
...and here is my name and the sign that I hung on the marquee.

The aprons are always a big hit.

My `Tickle Blankies' , also a huge hit. With the minkee on one side, people just couldn't keep their hands off them!
The giant single log cabin cot quilts are a favorite of mine to make. This is the girls one that I made for the market.

Just one of the many storage stashes of fabrics calling me to make them into something for the next market....better get started.

Market Day

Whoo hoo!

Market day finally arrived

After a late late night of finishing touches, and a sleepless night
it was up early to drive down to Pacific Palms with much anticipation and great expectations!
Despite the humidity and sweltering heat, it went really well. The biggest hoot being that I was approached by a shop owner who wants to stock my items!
I was ready for a break from the sewing machine for awhile after today, however, after an overwhelming boost to my confidence from comments today, and a short lay down, I'm right and ready to get back to my beautiful fabrics and machine.
Will definitely do the markets again. The whole atmosphere was very exciting and actually quite relaxing.
So here are some photos finally of just a few of the things I had for sale today. Unfortunately, I can't figure out my new phone and how to download photos yet, so images of my stall aren't going to be up today. My 16 month old found my mobile phone and deposited it through a small hole in the flywire of the backdoor for our dog to munch on!! If anyone decided to call me....my dog might have rung!

Twirly three tiered skirts, tiered dresses, little jackets, funky pants and frilly hemmed ones for the girls, aprons, cot quilts, bean bags, hair clips, pencil rolls, and one of the biggest hits were my `tickle blankies`.

Now to go and figure out my phone!

Sew Busy

Sew busy busy busy at the moment. I don't think I have stopped sewing except for christmas day since back in September. This Sunday is the really big market for Pacific Palms. I finally have a site booked. I have done car boot sales and the likes but this will actually be my first market under the name `mimagirl creations'. I am nervous but sooooo excited. The market organiser really liked my products and thinks I should do really well. So that is a confidence booster. So much to do still before then though.

Have been making my labels, and buisness cards, and setting up an email address

mimagirlcreations@gmail.com

This is so that people who see my things at the market can email me if they would like to make an order.
I'll put up some photos in the next couple of days as I set up everything for the stall. At the moment there is stuff everywhere all over the lounges and the dinning table. I will be lucky soon to have a dedicated sewing/craft room that I have been longing for.

Some kids aprons that I made to sell at our car boot sale that I organised to fundraise for our mainly music group. You can't see them very well because it was a bit windy!
Pencil rolls for the market and I also made a lot of other funky pencil cases and hair clips etc. Sold really well.
This is the latest quilt. For my baby Joash.
A very dotty spotty quilt with dotted minkee on the bottom.

My goodness, it's been so long since I have written here. Much has been going on. I have had more birthday parties to create, and bake for, and markets that I have been organising and selling my creations at, and of course...more quilts! By the way you should check out Poppy Bean and Bloss for a great giveaway at the moment!

No photos

I know I know....it's been ages since my last post. But I really do have some good excuses..and well yes..some bad ones too.!
It's that long ago I can't even remember what the first reason was...I think that I was sick. Then the kids have been sick and then there has been all the birthday parties. I think nearly the entire class of year 2's were all born in the same month! I am going broke with all the gifts. I would like to think that I could craft them all something, but there just hasn' t been any time. I have been busy sewing and crafting for my own childrens parties. I would love to be posting photos of everthing I have been making and doing, but one of those reasons for not writing has been that I like to have photos to post each time and so I have waiting until I could. You see, my camera died and I have been waiting for a new one which I have now, but have already misplaced, somewhere amongst the chaos and clutter of material and piles of washing...the downloading wire attachment thingy. So no photos until I find it! So I shall describe my projects to you and you can just use your imaginations.

I finally finished the quilt for Jemima. I then made loads of toadstool cushions as you do when your daughter is having a fairy party. They are red material with white felt dots all over them that I blanket stitched on to look like the toadstools. Now this whole party was going to be in the garden and so we had been working really hard on finishing all the garden beds and we made a sandpit in one corner that looks like a beach with dune plants along the edge and drift wood sitting on the sand. Eventually we will paint a mural on the wall behind. I planted Lavender around the edge of the new clothes line so that the washing can brush against it smell absolutely delicious. My new no-dig garden beds for the veggies are ready to be planted out now and I created a new herb garden by the back door complete with a pond.
We created an area that was to be the for the fairy garden that the girls were going to plant. However after all this work leading up to the party..it poured solidly for nearly two weeks. There was no way the girls were going to be able to go and dance around as fairies outside. So with only a day left I had to come up with something for inside. So a quick dash to the shops, I came home with two king sized pink and white checkered flannelette flat sheets that I stitched together at one end and hung over a rod from the ceiling to create a tent. We pinned the corners to funiture and on the ends I hung purple organza and pinned fake flowers all over the whole thing. It did look very inviting. Underneath I laid the new quilt that I had made her and placed all the toadstool cushions under there. I then whipped up a bunting of beautiful fabric triangles and hung it across the room. The dining table was covered with fairy glitter and stars and beaded wire in the centre and lots more flowers. We had merangue grubs, fairy cakes, marzipan toadstools, fairy bread (of course) and tiny teacups made with tic toc buiscuts for the saucer and marshmallows as the cups with a freckle chocolate as the froth on top and a half a life saver as the handle. They were very cute. A dolly varden cake made up as a fairy was a big hit too.
After party games the girls then went out onto the verandah to plant the fairy garden into an old tin bath tub. They loved doing this and then placed the iron fairy into it and sprinkled it with fairy dust (loads of fairy dust!) and made wishes. They then danced around the verandah catching all the bubbles from the bubble machine. Ahhh, success. Everyone had a lovely time and went home with an organza bag filled with lolly necklaces and a miniture fairy ornament, a tiny bottle of fairy dust and a wand, and other bits and pieces.
They all looked lovely and Jemima loved her new fairy costume that I made. An underdress of shimmering silver material and a skirt of green, pinks and puple strips of tulle and that sort of material, and peices of fluffy rainbow wool. A lovely jacket with a flared skirt in a shimmering pink material over the top with some wings velcroed on and of course the ballet slippers and hair plaited with flowers to adorn!
Lots of work but lots of fun.

Eli had also had a party before all that. A movie night party. We opened the front widow that was adorned with fairy lights as the ticket booth. They had to present their tickets ( the invitations) as they arrived to come in and recieved a popcorn box full of goodies for the movie. The lounge room once again was decorated with strips of film hanging across the ceiling. Good movie night food was easy...pizza & popcorn. They cake was also looked like a piece of film. They watched a movie projected on the wall while sitting on beanbags. Now 6 eight year old boys I thought, in my naivety, would sit quietly and watch the movie but no...they jumped, and wrested and had pillowfights (yes it was a sleepover). Fun was had with not much sleep.

Now parties are all over and I am exhausted but still lots of crafting to be done. My baby turns one in August so I am working on a quilt for him.
Another quilt that I am working on is called a Daisy Chain quilt. It is for a friend of mine who just lost her first baby three days before she was due. She named her Daisy.

Op shopping

This weeks op shop finds. I have always wanted a set of these colourful tin cups in the zip up leather case. My uncle had a set for camping in his caravan and as a child I always adored them. Now I have some for my children.
A new basket for my knitting....love it
This soccer game was a big hit straight away and it folds up into a carry case.

I always look forward to browsing in the op shops or going to garage sales to see what treasures I can find. Loving these ones this week.
